남악 늘푸른 한의원

정제된 공간, 치유를 위한 구조.

‘늘푸른 한의원’ 프로젝트는 의료 공간이 갖는 기능적 요구를 넘어, 사용자의 심리 상태에 섬세하게 개입하는 환경을 구축하는 데서 출발하였습니다. 본 설계는 공간을 하나의 ‘장치’로 정의하고, 물리적 배치와 감각적 요소들이 환자의 인식과 체험에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 면밀히 고려하는 방식으로 전개되었습니다.

외부는 주변 도시 환경과 과도하게 대비되지 않도록 절제된 구성으로 계획하였습니다. 명확한 수평선과 단순화된 입면은 안정적인 이미지를 형성하며, 투명한 유리와 어두운 프레임의 대비는 공간 내부의 존재를 은근히 드러내면서도 의료 시설 특유의 폐쇄감을 완화하는 역할을 합니다. 내부는 색채보다는 구조와 재료의 깊이에 집중하여 구성하였습니다. 전체 공간은 밝고 중성적인 톤을 기본으로 설정하되, 표면의 질감 차이와 미세한 그림자 형성을 통해 단조로움을 방지하였습니다.

접수 공간과 대기 공간은 명확한 기능 구분보다는 자연스러운 흐름 속에서 배치하였습니다. 곡선이 가미된 카운터와 단순화된 가구 구성은 동선을 부드럽게 유도하며, 사용자가 공간을 ‘이용’한다기보다 ‘통과하고 머무르는’ 경험을 하도록 설계하였습니다. 이러한 구성은 의료 환경에서 흔히 발생하는 경직된 분위기를 완화하고 보다 일상적인 공간 감각을 형성하는 데 기여합니다.

본 프로젝트는 의료 공간을 특정 이미지를 전달하는 장식적 대상으로 다루기보다는, 사람의 감정과 인식이 서서히 정돈되는 환경으로 정의하고자 하였습니다. ‘늘푸른 한의원’은 강한 시각적 인상을 남기기보다, 사용자가 공간을 떠난 이후에도 안정감이 잔상처럼 남는 장소를 지향합니다. 이는 치유의 과정이 치료 행위 자체뿐 아니라, 그 과정이 이루어지는 환경 전반에서 시작된다는 관점에 기반한 설계입니다.

Refined Space, A Structure for Healing.

The “Neulpureun Korean Medicine Clinic” project began with the intention of going beyond the functional requirements of a medical facility to create an environment that gently engages with the psychological state of its users. The design defines the space as a device for care, carefully considering how physical layout and sensory elements influence the patient’s perception and experience.

The exterior was planned with a restrained composition that does not compete with its urban surroundings. Clear horizontal lines and a simplified façade establish a sense of stability, while the contrast between transparent glazing and dark framing subtly reveals the interior and softens the closed and rigid image often associated with medical facilities. The interior, in turn, focuses not on color but on structure and material depth. A bright, neutral palette forms the base, while variations in surface texture and the play of soft shadows prevent monotony and give the space a quiet dimensionality.

Rather than strictly separating functions, the reception and waiting areas are arranged along a continuous and natural flow. The gently curved counter and simplified furniture guide movement intuitively, allowing users to experience the space not as something to be used, but as something to be passed through and inhabited. This approach helps to alleviate the stiffness commonly found in clinical environments and supports a more familiar and relaxed spatial atmosphere.

This project does not treat the medical space as a decorative object meant to convey a specific image, but rather as an environment in which emotions and perceptions are gradually organized. “Neulpureun Clinic” seeks not to leave a strong visual impression, but to remain as a subtle sense of calm after one has left the space. This reflects the belief that healing begins not only through treatment itself, but through the environment in which that process takes place.
